Student Health & Safety Policies

The KSD School Board has established several policies to support the health and well-being of the students in our district.

 

KSD Policy #203 - Immunizations and Communicable Diseases

                 Policy #203 requires all students to adhere to the Pennsylvania Department of Health immunization requirements.  Please refer to the policy for details.

 

KSD Policy #203.1 - HIV Infection

                 Policy #203.1 addresses the district's response to HIV infection, including attendance, confidentiality, universal precautions, and staff development.  Please refer to the policy for details.

 

KSD Policy #209.1 - Food Allergy Management

                 Policy #209.1 focuses the district's food allergy management on prevention, education, awareness, communication and emergency response.  Please refer to the policy for details.

 

KSD Policy #209.2 - Diabetes Management

                 Policy #209.2 addresses students who may require diabetes-related care or treatment during the school day and the district's commitment to providing that care, along with professional training for school staff.  Please refer to the policy for details.

 

KSD Policy #210  - Medications

                 In compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health's Guidelines for Pennsylvania Schools for the Administration of Medications and Emergency Care, Policy #210 outlines the administrative regulations for administration of medication or student self-administration of medication during the school day.  Please refer to the policy for details.

 

KSD Policy #210.1 - Possession/Administration of Asthma Inhalers/Epinephrine Auto-Injectors

                 Policy #210.1 authorizes the district to stock epinephrine auto-injectors in the name of the school district for emergency administration by trained employees to a student believed to be experiencing an anaphylactic reaction.  Please refer to the policy for details.

 

KSD Policy #246  - Student Wellness

                Policy #246 states that the Knoch School District recognizes that student wellness and proper nutrition are related to students' physical well-being, growth, development and readiness to learn. The Board is committed to providing a school environment that promotes student wellness, proper nutrition, nutrition education and promotion, and regular physical activity as part of the total learning experience. In a healthy school environment, students will learn about and participate in positive dietary and lifestyle practices that can improve student achievement.  Please refer to the policy for details.  You may also be interested in the KSD Wellness Committee.

      

KSD Policy #249 - Bullying/Cyberbullying

                Policy #249 Beginning January 1, 2009, all Pennsylvania School Districts were required by state law to have a bullying policy either implemented or revised to reflect changes to the law.  The Knoch School Board approved a bullying policy in July 2008, which has been revised several times to comply with changes to the law, most recently in 2021.  (24 PS 13-1303.1)

 

KSD Policy #314.1 - HIV Infection

                Policy #314.1 reinforces the Board's ongoing commitment to providing a safe, healthy environment for students and employees.  Specific to HIV infection, this policy safeguards the health and well-being of students and employees while protecting the rights of the individual.  

 

KSD Policy #819 - Suicide Awareness, Prevention and Response

                 Policy #819 directs the district to provide education on youth suicide awareness and prevention; to establish methods of prevention, intervention, and response to suicide attempt or suicide death; and to promote access to suicide awareness and prevention resources.  Please refer to the policy for details.
